Bible Study - The Passion of the Messiah: Part 4 (Matthew 27:35-66)

  • Read Matthew 27:32-56. This is the central moment in God’s work of redemption. Pause to take it in, read it a few times and consider what it would be like to be one of the witnesses mentioned by Matthew (Simon of Cyrene, the Centurion, the two Marys and the mother of James and John). How does this event affect you?
  • Jesus’ only words are the opening words of Psalm 22. Read this psalm and consider what it says about the meaning and ultimate outcome of Jesus’ death on the cross.
  • Read Matthew 27:57-66. From the very beginning the resurrection has been doubted. Do you believe in the resurrection? What makes you believe?
